What’s inspiring me lately – January 2022

Happy New Year!🎉 Thought I’d kick off the year with a post on what’s been inspiring me lately. Yep, it’s been a while, but I’m recharged and ready to get back at it!

Books by Mimi Thorisson

I received the book French Country Cooking by Mimi Thorisson as a gift and I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of her before! Her books are far beyond lovely recipes, they are stories of her life in Europe with her family. The photography is gorgeous (hello old world European vibe!) and the recipes look divine. She also has a book of Italian cooking from her time in Italy. If you’re looking for a beautiful coffee table book that doubles as a gem of a cookbook, then this is your author!

New Travel Destinations

As we are all painfully aware, travel the past couple of years has been less than inspiring. My hope is that 2022 and beyond are full of new travel opportunities and I’ve got my eye on a couple of places I’d like to plan for. Or maybe I combine them for one epic adventure, yes?!

1. Lake Garda, Italy (Lago di Garda in Italian)
Ok, do I really need to explain why I’d like to go here?! Just look at the photo! But seriously, I was in Italy back in 2008 and I’m itching to get back there. I would love to find a waterside rental spot during the warm seasons and just stay put there for at least a week, ideally more.

2. Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
I don’t know why I’m obsessed with Switzerland lately, but to stay here among the Alps would be heaven! I think I would enjoy being here in summer OR winter. (So maybe that’s TWO trips?!) After traveling to Austria, I fell in love with the Bavarian culture and it would be amazing to get back to that region. (More on my Austria travels here)

Half Baked Harvest recipes

I know, I just talked about food above, but it’s January and all I want to do is make comfort food! I came across Half Baked Harvest and I was immediately hooked. The branding is beautiful and the food photography is stunning. I’ve made several of the recipes and not one has disappointed. I also love that you can find a wide variety from healthy to indulgent. Tieghan is the face behind Half Baked Harvest and if you follow on Instagram, she has great short tutorials for the recipes she makes. So yeah, highly recommend!

I guess we can conclude that I just want to cook and travel in 2022! 😅 But seriously, as a designer, inspiration comes from many places that are far removed from graphic design and I’m very cognizant to seek out those other areas of inspiration. That’s what fuels creativity and makes me a better designer and I’m here for it!

Here’s to a healthy, peaceful and prosperous new year–Ciao friends!🖤
