The creative benefits of de-cluttering
Ahhh, it’s officially fall and I’m thrilled!🍂I don’t know about you, but this is the time of year I really feel the need to purge and organize, even more so than spring or after new years day. After a recent major de-clutter session, I came to a realization that I thought was worth sharing. So, let’s chat.
I took a couple of days off to tackle a few specific projects on my list without interruption. The first was to go through every single thing in my closet and drawers and be ruthless about it. I have to say, nothing was safe and it felt SO GOOD. 💃🏻
Next, I moved on to my home office (papers everywhere are the worst!). I wanted to clear out anything that wasn’t necessary in preparation to finally paint and restyle the room. Stay tuned for more of that.
I knew after I accomplished these tasks, I would feel a sense of calm and delight. What I didn’t expect was to have a burst of creativity hit me out of nowhere. I had been experiencing a touch of creative block on a couple of projects in the works. After eliminating all of the “stuff” I didn’t need, I was so energized to think creatively again. I realize that clearing the physical space also clears the mental space.✨
You don’t have to be in a creative field to benefit from a de-clutter session. Clearing your mental space for anything in your life is worth the effort, I promise. (also related, my post on “why less is more” here) So, roll those sleeves up and start de-cluttering. Oh hey, basement, I’m coming for you next!💪🏻
